25 February 2010 | Posted by Milly Diaz | Social Media

According to new reports, next month Twitter will be launching an ad platform to make some money (finally!).  The first generation of Twitter ads will apparently appear as hashtagged messages in users’ streams.
Details aren’t exactly clear at the moment.
Interestingly, Twitter’s head of monetization indicated in an interview that they wouldn’t be in control of ads [...]

Ode to Foursquare

24 February 2010 | Posted by Milly Diaz | Social Media

Back in January I did attempt
To take the Foursquare plunge

Unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be
Because their beta app wouldn’t sync with my Blackberry
About a week ago the Blackberry was replaced
With a glorious iPhone
Foursquare, you were the first app I downloaded
And I am far from disappointed!
You’ve made exploring the environs so entertaining
You’re a ray of sunshine [...]

Privacy isn’t just for ‘old people’

3 February 2010 | Posted by Milly Diaz | Social Media

At last week’s social media uber-gathering during the Davos World Economic Forum, LinkedIn’s Reid Hoffman said, “All these concerns about privacy tend to be old people issues.”
As you can see from my other posts on tamar.com, I’m a bit obsessed about privacy and being placed in the ‘old’ camp didn’t sit too well with me [...]

19 January 2010 | Posted by Milly Diaz | Uncategorized

I signed up for Foursquare, the location-based social network, the week it launched in the UK back in October and have yet do the equivalent of my first tweet, i.e. checking in at a location.
There are two reasons why I didn’t bother to dive in headfirst.
First, I’m a Blackberry user and there isn’t a publicly [...]

It’s time to get social

8 December 2009 | Posted by Milly Diaz | Search, Social Media

As you’ve probably heard, on Monday Google announced that real-time search has arrived. Real-time results are being “rolled-out” gradually over the next few weeks, so keep an eye out for them next time you do a search.

Real-time searches will appear in a “latest results” box on the SERP. Live streaming content is pulled [...]

In an open letter issued last night on the official Facebook blog, founder Mark Zuckerberg spelled the end to networks on the world’s most popular social network for the sake of privacy.

According to new reports, a Canadian-woman lost her long-term health benefits because of pictures she posted on Facebook. The woman’s insurance company apparently accessed her Facebook profile and used posted pictures to build a case against her.
This reaffirms my position that there is no such thing as guaranteed privacy in any social media network. [...]

Twitter Listomania

Yesterday was a good day! In addition to another fine edition of London Cozytweetup, Twitter gifted me with the ability to create lists!
I’m no longer part of the uncool, list-less tweople.
As I started to put my first list together, I realized I’m following way too many people.
Going through my ‘following’, I noted that I [...]

Last year, I donated to Barack Obama’s presidential campaign.
That act landed me on the U.S. Democrats’ email mailing list.
Yesterday, I received an email with the subject line, Sarah Palin’s Facebook Lies.
I usually ignore most emails they send my way, but this, I thought, deserved a quick read through. I wanted to see how the [...]
