2014: The Year of Sport #Go4Greatness
As the Winter Olympics start in Russia, they signify not just the launch of another major sporting event, but the kick-off of a pretty amazing year for sport. And not just for global sport – here in the UK we’ve got a lot of reasons to celebrate our sporting prowess in 2014.
As well as Sochi 2014, the Tour de France starts here in the UK for the first time, the Commonwealth Games are in Glasgow, the World Cup takes place, Wimbledon, the Six Nations, the Winter Paralympic Games, the Marathon – and hundreds of others. Arguably this is one of the best years for sport in decades.
Here at Tamar, we’ve got a long history of pride in sport – and pride in our nation. Over the past 18 years we’ve worked with sports clubs, national teams, sporting brands and we’ve even taken part in a few events ourselves. So we’ve decided to continue that focus in 2014 with a number of exciting sport-focused initiatives.
First up is the launch of our latest piece of joint work with Team GB – which you can take a look at over on the Team GB website. After the success of the “Our Greatest Team” infographics for 2012, we have teamed-up again and produced a series of infographics which will get you up speed on everything you need to know about Team GB at Sochi 2014.
Alongside our infographic, we’re also producing a league table on the athletes of Sochi 2014 – tracking which athletes are the most popular online via their Twitter following. With the Winter Olympics having a noble history of creating overnight superstars (Eddie the Eagle Edwards, Torville & Dean and the Jamaican bobsleigh team being just a few examples), we can’t wait to see whether the 2014 Winter Olympic athletes experience the same awareness boost that their London 2012 team-mates saw (“Who’s winning in the race for Team GB social (media) gold?“)
The table has launched today – go take a look at it on on our site – Socialympics 2014
We’ll also be taking a closer look at sporting brands in 2014, and how they manage to capitalise on this Year of Sport to build their customer and fan base. Our analysis will launch at the end of Sochi so watch this space – it should be another fascinating piece of research.
One thing’s for sure – it’s going to be a GREAT year for sport, both as a competitor and as armchair enthusiasts like the rest of us! Let the games begin…
