This week has presented several spats in the digital space… From Paula Deen and Anthony Bourdain duking it out on Twitter to the little blackout that thought it could, but just couldn’t to the on-going drama between Google and Twitter, it’s been one volatile week in the digital space!
Anthony vs. Paula
Paula Deen, American chef made famous for her fattening Southern recipes and decadent deserts was recently diagnosed with type 2 Diabetes and seized the opportunity to make a little cash off her misfortune. After the announcement that Paula will be the spokesperson for a Diabetes medication was made, Anthony Bourdain who has long opposed the chef who made Twinkie Pie popular, once calling her “the most dangerous woman in America” put his Twitter account to use for further bashing of Deen’s reputation. Bourdain tweeted, “Thinking of getting into the leg-breaking business, so I can profitably sell crutches later” causing a dispute for the world to see… As for Anthony, we think he might be getting worked up over nothing, but Paula’s silly response “Get a life” in our opinion is a FAIL!
Google vs. Twitter
Google and Twitter continue to duel over the fairness of Google+ pages showing up in search results on the most popular search engine… *yawn* Google hasn’t indexed the @ symbol so therefore searching for someone’s Twitter handle on Google is ineffective… But seriously… if anyone was seriously determined to find someone’s Twitter page on Google, it’s simple enough to search for “Tamar Twitter” which brings the result you want. We suppose this is just another way for the platforms to garner some attention and free press. FAIL!
This week’s biggest fail goes to SOPA and PIPA. It looks like the mass protest AGAINST the ‘Talibanisation of the internet’ which counted giants like Google, Wikipedia and Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg as key supporters got 18 new Senators into the ‘anti’ camp.
Here’s one of our favourite ‘anti’ SOPA videos that emerged this week:
We hope you all have a great weekend!Tweet
