First off, I should apologise for the use of that hideous malapropism in the title – I couldn’t resist!
Good news for those of us who use Twitter as part of our marketing plan – Twitter is FINALLY launching their own analytics package this month, just over a year after it was first announced…!
In a move that will FINALLY catch them up with other services like Facebook, Twitter analytics (don’t worry, as far as I’m aware they won’t be choosing to call it Analytwics as I jokingly suggested!) will allows users to find out all sorts of juicy information about their tweets.
According to the site’s developer blog, the tool is centred (at the moment) around shortened links, the “tweet this” button and other traffic-driving activities from Twitter to your site(s). Here’s the official low-down from Twitter:
The product provides three key benefits:
- Understand how much your website content is being shared across the Twitter network
- See the amount of traffic Twitter sends to your site
- Measure the effectiveness of your Tweet Button integration
So the focus for the moment will be on Websites – not as originally predicted the minutiae of which tweets “worked best” and other metrics. Probably much to the relief of third-party app developers the world over, who already produce thousands of tools to help you hone your tweets more accurately.
The package is very similar to Facebook’s Like-Button analytics, which has been available to site owners (through the larger “Facebook Insights” tool) for a while now.
As a site owner myself, I’m very excited to find out what sort of insight I can get from this new tool – it’ll certainly give a whole new dimension to measuring the success of Twitter marketing, something which has often caused confusion for marketers and brands alike.
We will of course let you know as soon as the tool is open to the public!Tweet
