FarmVille is bigger than Twitter

Say what? For those who don’t know, FarmVille is a (rather addictive) Facebook app which sheepallows ‘farmers’ to develop their very own little patch of land, complete with tractors, barns, woodsheds and fences…not to mention scarecrows, animals, fruit trees and crops.

Speaking to journalists at the UK headquarters this week, Facebook revealed some pretty mind-blowing stats about the popular social networking site. It was at this press conference that it was revealed that ‘Farmville’ is more popular than its major rival in the social-networking world – Twitter.

duckAlso of interest (to non-farmers): there are over 90,000 applications on Facebook, including the popular FishVille, Mafia Wars, Pack Rat and more. Worldwide, Facebook has 200 billion page views a month, with 350 million users globally logging into the site – and 69 million of these active users are using FarmVille alone – that’s more than Twitter has.

Let this serve as a warning to Twitter – it may well be the website of the moment (and word of the year), but it’s obvious that it’s still got a long way to go if it wants to truly dominate online social-networks.
