Twitter’s new login page – is it just the start?

Alex Christie

Is Twitter paving the way for an update to the rest of the site’s presentation with a change in their login page? I bet most regular users dont see the login page, as its bookmarked or logs in automatically (or remains logged in if your machine never seems to get a rest, like mine).

The new format is markedly different from the old one:

Old:

twitter-old-3

New:

twitter-new

The addition of the search function to the login page, as well as trending topics are the key changes aside aesthetics.

Perhaps the addition of the new login page isnt really too sigificant in itself, but the question of whether it is paving the way for updates to Twitter’s ultra simple format are more interesting. Have Twitter learned from Facebook backlashes of the past to imposed format alterations, and are dipping their toe in the water at a more cautious pace? One thing is sure – there will be a lot of interest and opinion if wholesale changes do follow…
