To Bing or Not Bing – that is the question

So Bing is launched, sort of, and while any form of competition is good for the consumer is this really going far enough to tempt people over from the ‘non evil’ side?

I have my doubts, we were hoping for a step change and while some say that Bing is producing results and relevancy as good as Google it going to take a lot more to get people to change their habit. And that essentially is the grip that Google has on us in the UK with an 86% share of the Search market.

Personally I was looking for something to excite me, I would have taken that over some softening of relevancy and while something like the ‘everscroll’ (my word) that means images keep on coming and coming is good it ain’t ground breaking. Been on ‘live’ for years.

Still, I am going to give Bing a good go when its launched, on the 3rd June, even with fewer features in the UK – how annoying is that?

As I said, competition is good but as Google and Bing vie for position by offering more ways of searching (the same data) I have a worry that we are going to end up an an escalation war like we did with index size.

So not so much a ‘mine is bigger than yours’ but more of ‘mine has more features than yours’ game. Fun times.
