The hundred oldest URL’s

Alex Christie

23 December 2008

The internet has become such a part of our daily lives that none of us really consider the fact that the Web only really started coming together in the mid 1980’s. Even though that seems just yesterday, that’s more than 20 years ago: a really long time in the technology world.

The question however, if you feel bored that is, is who were the earliest adopters of the Web as we know it today. Well, today I stumbled upon an article that was compiled by JR Raphael of PC World and he put together a list of the 100 oldest URL’s.

No big surprises in the list as most of the front runners are all mostly technology companies. What is really interesting though is that most of the earlier adopters are all very large and successful companies today. The big question though is whether their success can be ascribed to the early adoption of the internet?
