“So tonight we’re going to search like it’s 2001…”

Ok, perhaps not as catchy as the Prince classic, but as it’s Friday I thought I would share with you a fun feature Google released during the week…

To coincide with its birthday celebrations (yes…you’re quite right, it was last month when Google turned 10, but it seems Larry and Sergey are not quite ready to take off their party hats just yet,) the search engine has opened up its internet archive to give us the ability to search using the 2001 version of the search engine.

In the days when iPod was best known as an acronym for the ‘International Programme of Ocean Drilling’, or when Facebook was a feature only available to students and faculty of Harvard University, it’s amazing to think how quickly we’ve moved in terms of accessible technology in the past 7 years.

If you’d like to be reminded of simpler times, when youtube was nothing more than a combination of unrelated words, then check out Google Search 2001. Enjoy!
