As regular readers will know, I’ve been a Facebook user for over 18 months now and still find time to update my status on a regular basis. Despite being of no real value to me, I like to keep my friends updated as to my whereabouts / activities, though in reality I spend more brain power trying to think of witty quotes, song lyrics, jokes or puns to use in my status than is probably healthy.
What readers probably won’t realise is that (and I’m ashamed to admit this) I was very late to jump on the Twitter bandwagon, only joining up in the past few months (thanks to Kim and her newfound passion for it!) I’m quite enjoying twitter, though admittedly found it hard to motivate myself to update my status in two different place and for two different audiences. But I muddle through – mostly using Twitter to publicise work-related stuff like this very blog.
Then I got a recommendation from a friend to join Yammer – a "tool for making companies and organizations more productive through the exchange of short frequent answers to one simple question: ‘What are you working on?’". Being the Social Media nerd that I am, I dutifully joined up and once I’d given it the once over I duly sent out invites to a number of other Social Media fans at Tamar, though so far the uptake has been slow…
Updating my status on three different sites is getting a bit tedious I have to say – I’ve already abandoned my status updates on Bebo and MySpace, and reject invites to join other micro-blogging sites like Plurk, identi.ca and Rejaw.
You can already use the Twitter Facebook app to update your Twitter status from within Facebook (though it’s still a cumbersome process!) – plus you can use the same app to allow Twitter to update your Facebook status.
But what I really need is a much more wide-reaching app to update them all… hmmm, reminds me of Lord of the Rings…Tweet
