You may never have heard of…
As you all know, Google is our friend. We like Google, we use it often, so I thought it would be a good idea to share some of its search functions with you. These generally make searching a little easier, well, not just searching, they will help you utilise a little more of Google’s power. Similiar to our brains, as we only use a percentage of our capabilities, these functions will allow you to tap into a little more of Google’s search power (a little like the Green Lantern charging his ring with his lantern).
Whether you want to know what the current value of the Pound Sterling is against the US Dollar or find out how many centimeters are in a foot, there are simple built in functions to help you out.
For exchange rates :
Another very simple one to use and that is very handy…All you need to do is type in the equation you want solved and the answer will magically appear in the search results.
For example :
Problem: 5*9+(sqrt 10)^3= solution. Easy
Quite possibly the function (besides general searching) that I use the most. It helps to find definitions for any word by searching a variety of online dictionaries. There are two ways of using this:
Let’s try and find out what "search engine optimisation" means, shall we?
The first way to do this is to simply type "define search engine optimisation" and it will give you one definition for your desired term, but by adding a colon to the search it will provide you with a list of different definitions from around the web, this is what it would look like if you typed in "define:search engine optimisation".
4. Check the weather and time
Without having to go outside (struggle with adding or subtracting hours) you can find out what the weather and time is up to (especially handy if you are traveling – to check your destination’s weather or time). So if you are flying to New York, simply type "weather New York" or "time New York".
5. Sport scores
Find out what your favourite sports team’s latest result was and also when their next game is. Whether you follow Premier League Football, American Football, Ice Hockey (as you would expect the majority of the sports covered are American, but that is sure to be expanded at some stage).
So there are 5 of my favourite functions that Google offers, if there are any you think are important and useful please don’t hesitate to log a comment. And just in case you want to know the number of horns on a unicorn acre in tea spoons per light year, you guessed it, Google knows.Tweet
