Google Suggest

Alex Christie

28 August 2008

‘Google Suggest’ is Google’s ‘new’ auto complete search feature which gives you automatic recommendations when you begin a search.

The feature aims at eliminating the need for Google’s "Did you mean?" feature which pops up when you mispell words.

The feature is not totally new as its has been in
development in Google’s Labs since 2004 and has
already appeared on
the Google Toolbar and in Google Maps but only now (Tuesday the 26th of Aug) has it graduated to the main search page.

Seams crazy to me Google would need this long to work out that this is a great enhancement for overall search experience. I guess as the worlds most visited site they need to be sure that any change won’t detrimentally affect user experience.

To use Google Suggest, users must use Internet Explorer 6.0 (or newer), Netscape 7.1 (or newer), Mozilla
1.4 (or newer), Firefox 0.8 (or newer), Opera 7.54 (or newer),or Safari
1.2.2 (or newer) and have JavaScript and cookies enabled.
