Keeping the web open to all

"The development of the Web will have major social, economic and political implications for our future.  At its core must be a commitment to maintain the principles of openness as a platform for the sharing of information."

These influential words were spoken this week by web pioneer Sir Tim Berners-Lee, and really acted as a plea for everyone to try and ensure the web remains open for all.  He was speaking an event to mark the collaboration between two major online bodies – WSRI and NESTA.

The two bodies will be working together to try and understand and perhaps more importantly enhance the forces that underpin the webs success. It’s unclear as to how long the research will take, but hopefully it will go someway into helping improve what we have through a secure and logical process.
