Yahoo bigger than Google!

Yahoo have finally found something to rival Google and actually beat them! Yes you heard me, in the almost constant rivalry of the search giants, Yahoo has made a claim that they are indeed bigger than the Google…
Their databse that is.

According to Yahoo VP of engineering, Waqar Hasain, they have a server with a 2 petabyte storage capacity, processing more than 24 billion events a day (That is a big number, ~24000000000~). A petabyte is 1,125,899,906,842,624 bytes or 1024 terabytes.

Yahoo claims that the "live" storage capacity is the highest in the world, there are other archived systems out there that are bigger but they are not on live servers so it looks like yahoo may have actually beaten Google for a change…

Yahoo anyone?

1000 terabytes can’t be right. I have over a terabyte on my PC. the biggest has to be over 2000x what is on my PC.

Aidan: It is the size of the single transactional database, not the overall capacity that is anything special. Remember this is not storing movies, images or music files – this is all pure user behaviour information and browsing habits…
