SEO Checkout today

Alex Christie

19 April 2008

Today I attended the SEO checkout session held by a spokesperson from Google’s Adspam department. He answered every question thoroughly but it was obvious that he was very conscious of Google’s privacy.

As is the usual with Google, he emphasised the importance of putting more attention on content of your website than links. Google thinks that content is the main factor affecting rankings. For example, a famous blog’s content update will get indexed within 5 hours. He also claimed that Google will ban websites that buy external links, although he did not share how Google will classify ‘buying links’.

His other main point was to try to make full use of Google webmaster tools and sitemaps. They can help websites get indexed easily and accurately. For example, you can choose to delete Google cache and search history by using this tool.

From my point of view, everything he said was right. But it is nothing new and I still believe that all the efforts for off page optimisation should be made.
