So is it an update? And is this your first?
For those of you who have been seeing some fluctuations in the rankings on Google, more than usual that is, you may be interested to know that there has been talk of a good old fashioned update – some say it may even be a Google Dance!
Now I am not sure about that but as Joni Mitchell (no www on her site as standard, but I digress!) said ‘you don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone’ and updates from Google used to be a ‘regular’ monthly occurance, but are no longer. And this used to be a time when we would all watch the datcenters and see them change as the update moved across them all. Rankings would come and go and for a period of a few days to a few weeks we would all hold our breath.
But with the advent of the everflux this phenomenon sort of disappeared. But is it back now? Recent chat has noticed that there have been some major discrepancies between a few of the datacenters and now Google is looking into it. Matt Cutts has even asked for people to send information to him on these differences. Intersting stuff. The two datacenters in question are:
Check them out for differences – can you see any in your sector?
As with all updates this one has been given a name, and even if this is not an update names have been assigned and so far ‘Ulysses’ from traditional source webmasterworld and ‘Dewey’ from Matt Cutts referring to the title you need to put into a report if you see any of these differences.
I am not convinced this is an update of old, it’s more of a regular progression, but it’s kind of ‘fun’ to see again the excitement an ‘update’ can bring! And given Google are looking into it who knows what the future will hold?Tweet
