It looks like the makers of Packrat are celebrating the start of the SXSW (South by South West) conference – March 7th to 16th in Texas, as they have added a new collection to the game this evening. Amongst the cards you can collect is:

  • Internet blogger Dooce, aka Heather Armstrong. According to Wikipedia, Armstrong has written extensively and sometimes humorously of her struggle with depression as well as her pregnancy, parenthood, skin cancer and her experiences with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
  • Jared Spool, the founder of User Interface Engineering. A software developer and programmer, Jared founded User Interface Engineering in 1988. He has more than 15 years of experience conducting usability evaluations on a variety of products, and is an expert in low-fidelity prototyping techniques.
  • Gina Trapani, tech writer and developer. Gina is the founding editor of Lifehacker.com, a weblog on software and personal productivity. She has authored two books based on the web site.
  • Factory Joe, aka Chris Messina. According to Wikipedia, Chris is best known for his involvement in helping to create the BarCamp movement and Microformats.
  • Jason Fried of 37signals – a web design company with a particular focus on usability, simplicity, and clarity in design and writing,
  • Ted Rheingold – the only blogger who (as I write this) seems to have picked up on their newfound Packrat fame on his blog.

Anyway, there’s 19 cards in the collection including a bunch of other conference-related stuff like the Austin convention centre. As well as being great for Packrat fans, I think this is a superb example of how this application is using topical subjects and events to keep it fresh. Good work guys!
