Yahoo employees to be sacked?

Alex Christie

23 January 2008

Social Networking sites together with slow revenue growth have led to Yahoo considering the firing of hundreds of workers. The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal have both reported on Yahoo’s cost-cutting plans, stating that a final decision on retrenchments won’t happen until late January.

Yahoo’s number of employees stand at roughly 14,000 and it is said that Yahoo has drawn up a list of 1,500 to 2,500 jobs that could be potentially be sacked. With the younger web surfers spending more time on trendier online sites like Facebook and MySpace, it seems Yahoo has not been receiving the targeted traffic from the younger online market.
