In case you missed this yesterday, Bebo announced this week that they are linking up their application platform with Facebook’s API, in a move that could be seen as a blow to Google’s OpenSocial announcement last month.
Several bloggers decided that OpenSocial was going to be the death of Facebook, but this latest move highlights the biggest problem with OpenSocial – it isn’t actually working yet. Bebo will now be the only (at least at the moment) Social Network which works on both API’s – Facebook’s own and OpenSocial. If it proves successful, will MySpace be the next to join the love-in? Only time will tell.
Joanna Shiels, president of Bebo said "Facebook had great success when it allowed third parties to write their own software applications a few months ago… Now, within a few hours, a Facebook application can run on Bebo, which should be good news for software developers."
Further to this announcement, Facebook then declared that they are opening up their developer API for other sites to license. So Bebo may not be alone for long!
I guess the rumours of Facebooks death were greatly exaggerated…Tweet
