Google Results Pages Getting Busy Again

Cluttered Results Page?

Over the last weekend we noticed that Google has made their News Results as an addition to the top ten rankings, and not replacing one of them, thereby reducing the number  of natural results to nine. So some good news there then!

Now the quality and relevancy is still off the mark for me on these results but you can’t have everything.

We also noticed quite a few searches are also returning Blog posts as well as News results, so the search page is getting quite busy. And if you see below for the search term ‘life insurance’ the page is returning Related Searches as well.

So ten natural results, ten sponsored results, three News results, three blog posts and eight related searches. That’s a total of 34 possible ways to get listed on Google for one search term. It does look like sites are limited to two pages per search in the natural results as well as in the News and Blog sections as well.

So we are yet to see any site have more than two page listings in total, not including the sponsored searches.

But what it does mean is that getting onto that all important first page is possible through a variety of ways.

I am not sure if the results page is becoming too busy, particularly if the News and Blog posts are at the bottom of the page. Where it does seem to get busy and cluttered is when the various additional listings are populated in the middle of the search results.

But that’s just my opinion! What do you think?
