Showing Google how to Monetize YouTube
Video search engine Blinkx launched a new video advertising platform yesterday. The new platform, called AdHoc, lets people embed ad-laced videos in their websites and lets them share in the advertising revenue.
"The dramatic growth of online video has been driven by a global audience; individuals who are creating and distributing user-generated content," said blinkx founder and CEO Suranga Chandratillake.
"We want to reward people for the role they played in sharing and promoting video legally on the web." Like Google’s AdSense, advertisers can buy keywords and ads will appear in videos where specific words are spoken or tagged.
The ads will be displayed before or after the video is shown. Video "bugs," which crawl across the screen, and banners that appear around the video, will also be among Blinkx AdHoc’s offerings.
