On Saturday the Tamar Cape Town headed back to Vuyani to join the
Cashbuild management team to complete the final touches on the new
classroom. The weather finally looked liked it was going to be in our
favour and the day started in bright sunlight. With the help of the
Cashbuild guys the glazing was completed and the classroom got another
coat of paint.

During the course of the morning the wind picked up and rain clouds
appeared. With the weather again not co-operating the paint didn’t dry
quickly enough to complete a final coat.

We did however manage to get most of the floor tiles laid. The day
ended with a quick game of basketball on the new court and a braai
(barbecue).

The nation-wide public sector strike is into its fourth week but for a
small minority of teachers at Vuyani (five including the headmaster)
the strike is over. They belong to a smaller union who have come to an
agreement. The other teachers union is still on strike so there are
still no children back at school yet.

There is still some more work to do on the classroom. We’re planning another trip to Vuyani soon. We’ll keep you posted.
