Buffy Update? No Says Matt Cutts

19 June 2007 | Posted by Neil Jackson | Search Strategy Director | Search

Recent comments on one word search terms, deeper searches (long tail)
and some moving around has led a few people to wonder if there has been
an update in the Google algorithm. And for very ‘in’ reasons (Vanessa
Fox leaving Google, it’s a long story!) it was christened ‘Buffy’.

However, Matt Cutts, Google’s Head of Spam comments ‘I’m pretty sure (we, Google) haven’t had algorithmic changes lately.

Other than perhaps for some one-word queries, I think most things
remain unchanged. And even for most one-word queries, most results
remain unchanged. So I’m not sure it’s worth calling it an update’.

So no update as such but we will keep an eye open to see if the
’shuffle’ is having an impact. So far we have not seen any changes
other than the usual daily everflux but time will tell.
